Come 2019, 8 Junior Colleges in Singapore will be merged in view of students' benefits. This is an essential measure taken by MOE to ensure the best overall learning programmes and experiences are given to students due to the falling enrolment rate with declining birthrate contributing to one of its causes.
In order to maintain a varierty of subject combinations, educational programmes and co-curricular activities (CCAs), this move is deemed to be necessary as with declining students enrolment, most of the schools are unable to provide a broad spectrum of learning programmes and experiences, thus resulting in a poorer student learning experiences.
The name of the merged JCs will adopt a combination of the full names of both Junior Colleges, with the name of the older JC placed in front. The naming decision aims to reflect the history and heritage of the original school.
They will be named Anderson Serangoon JC, Yishun Innova JC, Tampines Meridian JC and Jurong Pioneer JC
